Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
An important representative stated the attack rendered him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
