19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time trainer his previous coach.

Presently training with Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents his initial title since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court from March of the previous year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children at once, so to get a trophy is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

His counter-punching strategy and regular outbursts on court had led commentators to question if his ability to compete at the top level was over.

However the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an improved serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning 4 of the final five points to go ahead.

The competitors swapped break points in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden tour championship, gained dominance to create a final set.

Moutet saved 4 early-game break points in a tight third set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
